I decided to carry on my research with the trend "Thininspiration" and I came across this movie:

Weirdly enough, the actual title by which you will find it online is Starving in Suburbia, which is the new title they gave to the movie in the second part of the distribution.
It's the story of a "17-year-old dancer Hannah is a perfectionist, always pushing herself to the limit. This isn’t surprising given her home life—her mom manages the family effortlessly, and her dad is set on making her brother Leo into a wrestling champion. Even Hannah’s best friend Kayden is perfect without even trying. So when Hannah stumbles upon a website for Thinspiration, a cult-like forum encouraging anorexia, she becomes entranced. Spurred on by the site’s siren-like founder, ButterflyAna, Hannah falls deeper under her spell and begins to deteriorate both physically and mentally. Desperate to reach her goal weight, she spirals out of control. It’s going to take everyone she loves—and a harsh dose of reality—to get her to back away from the edge and return to a normal life." (from MarVista Entertainment on the 14/12/14).
Even though this movie focuses mostly on how Hannah gets mentally ill rather than on her recovery (which is the part in that we're interested in for our project) I wanted to share it with you. Here's why (beware of spoilers):
- The director creates a very realistic picture of anorexia as a mental illness and the actress that portrays the sickness (Izabella Miko) does a brilliant job.
- The story happens to a very normal family, kind of stress because of their different projects (Hannah is focused on earning her solo, her brother on becoming a wrestling champion, her dad training her brother, etc.) but that's it. And then it turns out that both kids suffer from anorexia! It's very interesting to see a film showing the sickness at the same ordinary level in which people suffer it.
- Contrary to the ordinary, the young teenagers actually look their age and very normal, which again shows how often this sickness affects young people.
I hope you'll enjoy it!
P.S. Get tissues, you'll need them for the end...
